Test Report of Accuracy between Total Station and ADM

ADM is an Automatic Monitoring device to measure the displacement in Horizontal. But how can we verify its accuracy and stability? In this test, we will compare ADM’s deformation value with Total Station’s result, to prove ADM’s stability in monitoring direction and data.

 

1.Equipment used in this test

GINTEC ADMS-500,

Trimble S9 Total Station (0.5 second),

Portable Inclinometer RDM Pro.

 

2.Test Method

We install one 17m length inclinometer casing against the wall, and fix the chain of ADMS-500 with casing together. It’s Node/0.5m, totally 35 nodes. We stick reflector of Total Station on the surface of ADMS.

S9 total station is on the top of other building. Because the view of sight is blocked, Total Station just can measure the upper part 9.5m of ADMS.

 

3.Define the coordinate axis of ADM and Total Station.

X direction perpendiculars to the wall and pointing outward. The Y direction is perpendicular to the X direction and along the wall.

 

4.Measure and save the initial data.

Before measure and save the initial data, we recorded the reading of the ruler. From the reading we can know that the initial number is 22.5cm.

S9 total station measure and save the data from the depth of the ADM to the top of ADM. We set Total Station’s Control point coordinate as X: 100, Y:200, Z:10. R9 target at the reflector to collect data. The collection interval is 1 Point/0.5m in Z direction.

Then we can get the initial data of Total Station, please check. As we said in the first part of this article, because the view of sight is blocked, Total station just measures the upper part 9.5m of ADMS

5.Move ADMS and Inclinometer Casing, then compare the displacement

We move the ADMS and inclinometer casing along Y axis, then record the reading number of the ruler, record the S9 Total Station’s result and ADMS-500’s data. We define the coordinate of this time is X1, Y1, Z1.

 

(1)From this photo we can know that, after moving, the ruler reading of ADMS is 18.5cm. The displacement is 22.5-18.5=4cm=40mm

                                                                                    Deformation Value of Total Station

From this deformation value we can see that at the point J2.19(Top place of Inclinometer casing), the deformation in Y is 0.039m=3.9cm=39mm. The value we read from the ruler is 40mm. Just 0.1cm difference. That means Total Station records the deformation value correctly.

 

(3) Check and record the deformation value of ADMS-500 after the displacement happening.

From the deformation value of ADMS-500, we can know that in Node 750001(Top of ADMS-500) the deformation value is 38.4482mm. This value is similar as Total Station’s 39mm, Ruler’s 40mm.

 

6.Summary

From the deformation value of ADMS-500, S9 Total Station and ruler, we can know that these 3 values are very similar. That means they all can indicate the deformation value and direction successfully. S9 total station is a recognized product with high precision and stability. ADMS-500’s result just has 0.5518mm deformation, that means ADMS-500 also has a good accuracy and stability.
